In 2008, my day trip to Machu Picchu was a breathtaking journey into the heart of ancient Incan civilization. Nestled high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, Machu Picchu, often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas," was rediscovered in 1911.
The iconic site is believed to have been constructed in the mid-15th century by Emperor Pachacuti. Machu Picchu likely served as a royal estate and religious retreat.
My day there was filled with awe-inspiring views of terraced slopes, stone structures, and sacred temples. Wandering through the mist-shrouded ruins and absorbing the historical significance of this UNESCO World Heritage site left me deeply impressed by the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the Inca civilization.
