Machu Picchu - a tale of centuries
In 2008, my day trip to Machu Picchu was a breathtaking journey into the heart of ancient Incan civilization. Nestled high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, Machu Picchu, often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas," was rediscovered in 1911.
The iconic site is believed to have been constructed in the mid-15th century by Emperor Pachacuti. Machu Picchu likely served as a royal estate and religious retreat.
